2011 Chilean National Award for Humanities and Social Sciences: Roberto Torretti and Carla Cordua

Roberto Torretti and his wife, Carla Cordua, have jointly been awarded the 2011 National Award for Humanities and Social Sciences (Premio Nacional de Humanidades y Ciencias Sociales de Chile). This biennial award is the highest honor by the State of Chile to Chileans who have made a remarkable contribution in this field. The prize money comes to a bit more than $14,000 plus some monthly pension, as far as I understand Spanish. It’s a very big honor, and well deserved!

  1. Note that Torretti’s English wikipedia entry contains the hilarious phrase that he was “commencing an academic career as professor emeritus”.
